Thinking about Nebraska visit

Nebraska has thrown a wide net looking for junior college defensive tackles, but there is also a need for a high school defensive tackle in the 2013 class as well. A late offer to a Kansas City area prospect has him thinking about a visit to Lincoln.

Kansas City (Mo.) Center High School two way lineman, Maliek Collins, had a solid senior campaign. His team made an earlier exit from the playoffs then they anticipated, but Collins took a huge step forward from his junior year to his senior year.

"We're done with our season," Collins said. "We lost to Maryville in the second round of the state playoffs. Like the quarter finals.

"I didn't take a play off this season. I played both ways every game on both sides of the ball. I played right tackle on offense and either defensive tackle or end."

Collins is a 6-foot-2 and 285-pound prospect that is sitting on about five offers including a very recent offer from a Big Ten team. The latest offer has caught Collins' eye and he's possibly planning a visit to see that school soon.

"Recruiting is going pretty good. I am possibly taking a visit to Nebraska, but I am not sure when I will visit. They don't have any more home games."

The offer from Nebraska came in the past month or so and it made quite the impression on Collins. Collins knows that Nebraska is known for their defense and knows that the football program at Nebraska has the support of the entire state.

"The Nebraska offer is pretty new and I thought that it was a very good offer when I got it. It's a great opportunity because they are known for their defensive line and it's a football state."

Collins says that a visit to Nebraska would be a lot about scheme and how he might fit. He watched a recent Nebraska game on T.V. and says that he thinks that he can fit in well at Nebraska or any defense.

"I feel like I can go into any defense and learn it. I can beat blocks, make big plays and go to work on man on man blocks. I haven't been anything but double or triple teamed the past two years."
